Multimedia
Music is the bringer of Life.
The beat of the drum, the melody of the piano.
All of it forms a reflection of our emotion and our state of mind at the given point of time when we turn on our iPod and shut off everything around us. We drown our sorrows, we rejoice in our happiness.
All because we have the device in our pocket to play our favourite tunes anywhere and everywhere.
However for every light, there is a shadow. With the Internet being as vast as the 7 seas, there are always room for pirates.
Yes, I am talking about illegal downloading music. We can't prevent this from happe og but we cab always try to encourage people to either buy music via iTunes or the actual album itself.
Things like peer-to-peer sharing is inevitable.
And to look it into a positive point of view, sharing music can be a form of viral Internet marketing. You see, of people live your music, they will share it with their friends. When their friends love it, you get more famous. When people notice you, they want more. So if you perform in a concert, you won't lose much revenue. Since you're gonna sell merchandise at the entrance of your concert venue anyway. :)
Such bands/singers that got notice over the Internet are Panic! At the Disco and Colbie Caillat. It was during the myspace era when they left a message on Fall Out Boy's Pete Wentz webpage and asked him to check their band out, which he did. He was so impressed at how young and talented they were and flew to their house in Las Vegas to audition them. Soon after that, they were signed to Pete's label, Decaydance.

It is interesting how the internet had impacted the music industry. Gone were the days where wannabe singers/bands send their demo tapes via mail to record labels and struggle to get gigs at a local pub/club. Besides using it as a marketing tool, Bands/Singers can make use of sites like youtube and myspace to garner fans and upload their videos/music. :D
